Attacks on Pakistani Journalist and Miscommunication

Journalism under attack in Pakistan

I was sad to hear the news about the alleged attack on a senior Pakistani journalist Hamid Meer in Karachi. Fortunately he survived the attack, but he was injured and was admitted to local a hospital. According to recent news from his doctors he got hit by 6 bullets, he was operated and the operation was successful, he is out of critical condition and is now recovering in hospital.

Journalism has been under attack in Pakistan for a very long time. This threat has notoriously brought Pakistan to 10th most dangerous country for journalists. Extremists are to be blamed for this issue they not only want to force their false religious beliefs but punish anyone who thinks otherwise or even generate an independent opinion.

Miscommunication

I was shocked to see many twitter and facebook responses about his attack. One of the most shocking opinion flowing on twitter was that, he is a notorious journalist who got what he deserved. This all started when ISI a Pakistani intelligence agency was thought to be blamed for the attack. As the discussion on the issue was shown live on local news channel where Hamid Meer worked, the picture of chief of ISI was shown live while the blame was being discussed. This was based on the statement given by Hamid Meer to many of his colleagues. This changed the opinions of the people of twitter from condolences to hate towards the TV channel. This show the immaturity of both the TV channel and people on twitter. As a student of law, I have develop an understanding towards a very widely spoken term "Innocent until proven guilty"  and I believe in that too, but sadly many twitter followers started accusing the TV channel for defaming a state defence agency  and armed forced without investigating the whole issue. At the same time, some TV anchors on the GEO TV channel started blaming the lack of security directly on intelligence and military organisation of state and showed the picture of chief of the agency during the blame discussion. The TV channel should have understood the gravity of the situation and the miscommunication that could be the result of this and should have shown the program accordingly to avoid any mishap. This miscommunication caused the flood of hatred tweets and facebook posts not only towards the TV channel but the journalist Hamid Meer as well. This hatred reach to a point where GEO news and Jung group had to issue a clear statement to deny any such misconception caused by the miscommunication, had they been careful and followed proper journalistic code while reporting and discussing the attack this whole incident could have been avoided.

Happy Easter

I wish

The days of celebration always excite me ALWAYS.
I wish they never end seeing people smile and forget everything to be jolly. The only bad part about these celebrations is that they last only a days or 3 days. I wish they were longer. I wish people could just forget their differences and celebrate every day. happiness should be obligatory for everyone. I get high on excitement seeing people celebrating occasions whether its facebook status for birthday, youtube video of event, or my own house event. Life is short and we should cherish every happy thought we have in our mind even if its tiny.

Happy Easter to all who celebrates.

Sunday post paradox

On Seventh day he (God) rested

Today is Sunday, following the law of common man I woke up late, to find out I have two classes for 6 hours back to back. Yes on SUNDAY, I know universe hates me. So, I didn't had time to read or share anything usual today, But I will leave you today with an interesting paradox that you can think about and give your feedback. I found it randomly going through Wikipedia pages. If you like physics, philosophy or just want your mind to be twisted into disbelieving reality, give this one a try.

Its called Zeno's Paradox of motion.

In the arrow paradox (also known as the fletcher's paradox), Zeno states that for motion to occur, an object must change the position which it occupies. He gives an example of an arrow in flight. He states that in any one (durationless) instant of time, the arrow is neither moving to where it is, nor to where it is not. It cannot move to where it is not, because no time elapses for it to move there; it cannot move to where it is, because it is already there. In other words, at every instant of time there is no motion occurring. If everything is motionless at every instant, and time is entirely composed of instants, then motion is impossible.

Women football tournament in Pakistan

Congratulation Baluchistan United

As a human rights activist especially women and children, I was pleased and delighted to hear this great establishment for the women of Baluchistan region of Pakistan, which is considered to be most backward province of the country. SPB Women Football Tournament 2014 was held in Karachi, It is the first women football tournament of its kind in the country.
motto
"United we play, United we win"

Women football team of Baluchistan, named Balochistan United won the tournament. They won after defeating Karachi United by 1-0 in the tournament. This is a great achievement for women and the province of Balochistan. Sports activities amongst women weren't that famous in Balochistan, women were neglected in the field of sports, but these recent events of sports activity amongst women has not only brought very surprising results but also proved that with proper training and better facilities, women of Balochistan can compete and win, nationally or internationally.

I hope to see more of such events to for Balochistan, in future. Balochistan government should bring this to light and provide them proper equipment, grounds and training centres, so that team can train harder and compete better. I would like to request Sports ministry of Balochistan to arrange for cricket and basketball training facility for women as well.

I would like to congratulate Balochistan United on their win, I wish them more success in future.

Cannibal Law

Shocked and Disgusted

We hear the phrase the ignorance of law is not an excuse, but what if you crime you did, had no penalty to it or punishment. Crime is considered wrong if their essence are wrong according to the statutory definition.

A shocking and disgusting truth was discovered while I watching news, that we don't have a law to prosecute cannibals in Pakistan. The two brothers who committed this crime in Pakistan were let go free with a fine and were caught again next year committing those exact crimes, they are waiting to be released again because there is no law against the crimes they have committed. This made me think is it the criminal law (Pakistan Penal Code) that's at fault or the people who propose criminal law and had never brought this issue. Its not that this issue never existed in the world, throughout history we can see cannibals around the world.
So, why wasn't this entered in Penal code as crime? Did our government or law makers really thought that this crime will never be committed, that this act is so immoral, that it could never have been expected of us?

Off course the answers is YES. We as humans can never even think of eating another human being. Today in this civilised world, cannibalism can only be performed by people who are mentally ill. I am relieved to hear that High Court Of Lahore (Punjab, Pakistan) has issued the notice to the ministries for strict punishment of this crime. At the same time, I believe careful psychological testing might determine the cause of their act. The criminals should not only be prosecuted but should also be tested and researched upon, to find out what drive them to perform this heinous act. This information can be used to prevent such incidents in future

Army to take over security of Polio teams

Army to take over security of Polio teams

After reading this article in DAWN news I felt satisfied on the fact that our government is realising the threat of this disease. Although it saddens me that Pakistan is amongst the three unfortunate countries where the disease remains, but as Pakistani I am in debt of WHO, other international health organisations, and polio worker who are risking their lives help us eradicate this disease from Pakistan.

According to the article Pakistan's Government has asked Armed forces to provide security to the polio teams in KPK and FATA. This will not only boost the morales of polio teams but make their visit more effective. My request to Pakistani media to contribute towards creating awareness towards this disease, So that we can get rid of this problem once and for all.

Political Philosophy

Political Philosophy

Philosophy is a Greek word meaning love for wisdom, which comes from the word "Philo" meaning "Love" and "Sophia" meaning "wisdom".

Philosophy of everything has been changing throughout time. It encourages to ask questions and try to discover answers through observation and thought process. This quest for answers in the line of political philosophy has resulted in many discoveries. Starting from Greek democracy, Magna Carta, Capitalism, Communism, French and American Revolutions, Feminism, Libertarianism and recently Tea Party in US. These discoveries change the way we live life.

Question that relating to Politics are:
What society is best for progress?
What are the rights and responsibilities?
What system is the best for people?

All these questions are answered and regulated by government of state upon its citizen. The question that arises is that why do we need government to regulate these. The idea for the basic need for governance can be obtained from the early writings of Thomas Hobbes.
In his book leviathan, he gives us the situation where we live in a society, where there is no government. He calls it "state of nature". In state of nature a common man will develop many fears. Fear of theft; Things that he gained be stolen from him or taken from him by force. Fear of his and his family's life. There will be no force to regulate the rules for society. There will be nothing to constitute basic human laws. As a result people will waste their resource and energy to protect what they got, thus wastage of resources on their security will make the society less productive.

Thus we require a basic form of governing body to regulate interaction between people of its state, to stop them from wasting resources. That is where the role of government comes in. With state governing body regulating proper laws every human's right within that particular state will be safeguarded by the government. The laws will be made in accordance with demands and security of its people.

Please add your info in comments to further develop the basic Philosophy of Politics on this blog. Informative addition and constructive criticism will be much appreciated.
